About

MudPuppy Moon Art Studio

Mudpuppy Moon Art Studio is a one woman art studio with a primary focus on single-layer linoleum block prints. Linoleum block printmaking is a form of relief printmaking where artwork is created by applying ink to a linoleum block in which an image has been carved. The ink lays on the non-carved portions of the block and the image transfers on to paper or fabric pressed onto the inked block. With physical element of craft though the carving process, linoleum-block printmaking allows me to keep an artifact of my work and also share original and individual pieces created from that artifact.

Linoleum block carving detail-work in progress

Art has always been a part of my life but it wasn’t until I discovered printmaking in that I found my artistic voice. Beginning in 2015 in Johnson City, Tennessee as Buffalo St. Print Company, I first began my printmaking journey by capturing local musicians, friends and scenes in small edition linoleum block prints. Primarily self-taught through trial, error and observation, I eventually began moving away from portraits and posters to more personal work.

I made the decision to focus on subject matters

A life-long lover of nature and animals, when I was young I lived for the springs full of flowers, summers spent at the lake, falls in the woods and bare winter trees. When I wasn’t swimming or enjoying the company of animals, I was a library mouse. I spent hours in the children’s library in my home town pouring over every kind of book. Everything I read, especially myths and folktales, I would illustrate in the margins, between the lines, on my school work and in my sketchbook. I never drew a picture without a story behind it. I was, and still am, fascinated with visual storytelling and using imagery as form of communication. Combining my love of nature and storytelling I find inspiration for my prints in the magic of abandoned houses, familiar animals, my father’s woods and those everyday moments shared though the seasons of life.

I hope you enjoy my work and it captures for you that feeling of endless magic that only comes from having stories shared with nature.

Thank you,
